Ryanair: come clean with misled passengers!

Ryanair has been “persistently misleading passengers” about their rights, according to The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). In a damning letter, the air regulation body has described how Ryanair lied to customers about its legal obligations to provide alternative flights - and has told Ryanair it needs to amend misleading information.

The two recent rounds of flight cancellations have affected hundreds of thousands of passengers, and both rounds were dealt with dishonestly according to the CAA. The air regulator says that Ryanair’s chief executive at the time, Michael O’Leary, lied to passengers after the first round by telling them that Ryanair did not have to arrange new flights.

The CAA say that Ryanair then misled passengers again after the second round by failing to offer them the option of being rerouted with other airlines in cases where alternative Ryanair flights were not available.

CAA's chief executive, Andrew Haines, said: “There are clear laws in place, which are intended to assist passengers in the event of a cancellation ... We have made this crystal clear to Ryanair, who are well aware of their legal obligations.”
