Honduras, Do Not Imprison Women for Taking Birth Control

The Government of Honduras recently passed a law that would sentence women to time in prison for using the morning-after pill. These women would even be jailed if they took the pill because they were raped or sexually assaulted. They have also made the pill illegal to sell, so doctors who helped these women would be put in prison as well.

Such a law is an attack against women and their freedom to choose. It also strips women who have been sexually assaulted of the added security and comfort that they will not become pregnant with their attacker's child.

Tell the President of Honduras that this law must be rescinded, as it is an unacceptable attack on women’s rights!

We the undersigned sincerely ask the government of Honduras to stop and reject the law that imprisons women for using the morning after pill. Women have an international right to birth control and to choose whether or not they are ready to become mothers. By not allowing women to take the morning after pill, the government would be denying rape and sexual assault victims the comfort and insurance that they would not become pregnant with their attackers’ baby.

Please reject and stop this bill as it would detrimental to women’s rights and would take away comfort for sexual assault victims.

Thank you.
