Fight Against Gender-Based Violence!

What is gender-based violence?
Gender-based violence (GBV) can take place anywhere, including at home, at school, within communities, in public institutions and at work. It is a form of discrimination that inhibits women's and girls' ability to enjoy their inherent rights and freedoms.

Why does gender-based violence occur?
GBV can be defined as a structural problem that is deeply embedded in unequal power relationships between men and women that disproportionately affect women. Additional reasons include the low social status/ value of females in certain geographical locations, the gender stereotypes and norms that justify violence, and because it is often condoned or perpetrated by governments as "normal".

What are some examples of gender-based violence?
Gender-based violence have many different areas of examples, but the most common are early or forced marriage, female genital mutilation, domestic violence, and early and forced pregnancy.

What can we do to fight against gender based violence?
By signing this pledge, you make a promise that you will not only abstain from gender-based violence, but you will also take a stand against those who do.

On a community level, you can take part in initiatives and organizations that fight against gender-based violence in the Halton region.

On a global level, you can donate to organizations that fund victims, or you can directly help those who are affected through service trips.

If you scroll below, I have attached a list of organizations from both Halton and globally that are in need of donations and help.
