These past few years carriage disputes between cable and satellite companies and television networks have been increasing as they have been left to their own devices when it comes to royalties and licensing because of laws created in a different generation before the existence of tablets, iPhones, laptops, DVRs and streaming services. Networks are demanding the providers pay their rates or they pull the signals. Dish Network's recently settled month-long battle with Fox News is the latest (one with AMC a few years ago last four Saul-free months). Some disputes are solved within just days. New laws need to be passed to keep this from happening while customers lose out and wind up paying more.
Not everyone can switch from one service to another and the next blackout is waiting to happen. Also subscribers should be allowed to choose à la carte which channels they are willing to pay for and watch. The time for change is now. Don't be in the middle of Big Cable and Big Networks' silly squabbles anymore. Please sign this today.
