We are concerned citizens of the United States of America.
We created this petition to bring awareness to a problem that affects every single person of color in the country. We have done some research into the criminal justice system and our findings were unsettling to say the least. Here are a few of the numbers we found in a report on elected prosecutors commissioned by the Women Donors Network and conducted by the Center for Technology and Civic Life, a nonpartisan group that grew out of the progressive National Organizing Institute:
95 percent of elected prosecutors are Caucasian;
79 percent are Caucasian men;
60% states have no African-American elected prosecutors;
14 states have no minority representation among elected prosecutors at all;
Here is the cherry on top: just a pitiful 1% of elected prosecutors are minority women.
What exactly do we want. We want a full investigation into the reasons minorities can't break the glass ceilings of the prosecutorial ranks. We want an OPEN and THOROUGH investigation.
The findings will be audited by an independent 3rd party.
