Save the B.C. Caribou!

The U.S. government is considering stripping the southern Selkirk Mountains caribou herd of its endangered species designation, following arguments from Bonner County, Idaho and the Idaho State Snowmobile Association. The groups argued that the small woodland herd, the only herd to move from southern Canada into the U.S., should never have been designated endangered.

The Selkirk herd has been designated endangered since 1984, and Noah Greenwald, the endangered species program director with the Center for Biological Diversity, wants it to keep its status. "I think it's clear woodland caribou in the U.S. deserve our care and protection. They are likely the most endangered animal in the U.S. right now," Greenwald said.

In late December, the government announced its plans to consider the herd's endangered status over the next 90 days. Please sign the petition to convince the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to keep the B.C. caribou on the endangered list!

We, the undersigned, understand that you are considering stripping the southern Selkirk Mountains caribou herd of its endangered species designation, following arguments from Bonner County, Idaho and the Idaho State Snowmobile Association.

We believe that the Selkirk herd, the only herd to move from southern Canada into the U.S., is a unique, iconic and native species that deserves continued protections. We respectfully urge you to preserve the endangered stautus of these caribou. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
