Niko Black was in bed, fighting terminal metastatic cancer, when the Orange County Sheriff's Department broke her door down and evicted her from her home--at the behest of Wells Fargo. Her medications were locked in the house and the locks changed while Black, 37, was stranded on the sidewalk in a wheelchair. Without her medications, she quickly became ill, and police on the scene did nothing to help her. Soon she had to be taken to a hospital.
According to an Orange County Weekly article, Black's eviction was illegal. She had obtained a stay of eviction from Federal Bankruptcy Judge Theodore C. Albert in August. The paperwork, which was taped to Black's door, was in plain view of police who stormed Black's residence, in flagrant disregard of the order. Black has told the media that the document used to evict her is a forgery.
Tell Wells Fargo to return Niko Black to her home without further harrassment!
We the undersigned are outraged at the unfeeling and cruel treatment of Niko Black!
Black was forced from her home in what appears to have been an illegal eviction. She had signed paper work from a federal judge ordering a stay of eviction taped to her door. Police disregarded this paperwork completely and removed a terminally ill woman from her home, separating her from her medications. They ignored obvious symptoms of illness that demanded action from a department sworn to proctect and serve the public.
You have an obligation to return Niko Black to her home and desist from illegal evictions in the future!
