My name is Lauren Ferrante and I reside on the 500 block of Ellwood Ave, 21224. I am writing this letter about my concern for parking around the highlandtown/canton area.
As there is a beauty salon (Zooms), the Patterson Park Theatre, a church, and numerous dine in restaurants around the area, parking is limited (in which none have assigned parking accept the church). Not to mention the cars that stay parked on some streets that have historic tags or not being used/moved for weeks at a time. In some cases, if you are not home from work before 6pm, the parking becomes distant. Some people feel no need to leave the house after they found parking. Its almost promised your parking spot will not be there when you return or nor will there be anything available within a block radius.
The main concern for this letter is the parking that becomes distant for me and my family as well as the elderly people in the area. My father does not come home from work until 2:30am and as a result, is required to park sometimes 3 streets over and 2 blocks up. This sometimes becomes a danger for him, having to walk 5 blocks to his home in the middle of the night.
Another concern I have is the parking fines. When people get off work sometimes pass 10pm they always spend 10-15 minutes trying to find parking. When residents finally find parking 4 blocks away, it may result to having to squeeze between a car and the walkway. But when its the only parking spot around and they manages to park with only covering about 4 inches of the walkway, it doesnt make sense for people to get a $50-$70 parking fine .I feel that because there is NO WHERE to park that the fine is non sense.
Improve the parking and make it easier for people. I have seen several streets in the area that now have angle parking. This would be so much easier, as it will increase the changes for parking spots. I will do my best to bring this solution to the residents attention and to get the utmost support for the parking complications.
