Demand Racial Justice in the Half Hollow Hills Central School District

We, BIPOC students and alumni from the Half Hollow Hills school district, call upon the administration to step up and take action during this critical time in our nation. We have detailed our list of demands below and ask for support to hold the administration accountable to voices of color that have been silent for far too long. 

Our demands are as follows:

We demand that the HHH administration prepare educational materials that honor the Lenape, Montaukett, and other associated peoples in order to recognize the indigenous history connected to the New York-Long Island region.   

We demand that guidance counselors undergo supplemental training that teaches them how to properly provide support to low-income, first-generation and undocumented students throughout their educational journeys. 

We demand that the HHH administration incorporate antiracism lessons into the K-12 curriculum that teaches students about the ongoing struggle for racial justice and what they can do to uphold ideals of integrity.

We demand that the HHH administration take necessary measures to alter current ELA curriculums by incorporating literary works written by authors of color. 

We demand that Social Studies curriculums amplify narratives of color throughout U.S and global history by supplementing lessons with scholarly works by Black, indigenous, and historians of color. 

We demand that the HHH administration take necessary measures to diversify the staff and faculty to better reflect the interests of the HHH community. 

We demand that the HHH administration pledge to take allegations of racial injustice seriously and provide appropriate consequences to perpetrators. 

We demand that the HHH administration and staff undergo routine diversity training to better manage internal biases that manifest through unequal grading practices and harsher disciplinary measures towards students of color. 

We demand that the HHH administration take measures to promote inclusivity in education, especially in making AP/Honors classes more inclusive towards Black and Latinx students.

This list is not the extent of all the changes that must be made, but it acts as a starting point for reform. We ask that the HHH administration make conscious efforts to promote justice for all and work to addressing the needs of students of color.
