Stop Bull Races & Other Events Inhumane to Bulls

Bulls are animals that seem to receive very little respect worldwide, yet they are an important symbol in many cultures.  They have been used for centuries in the beef and dairy farming industries as well as other cultural activities.  Such activities of concern are the bull races and a “sport” known as Jallikattu. The practice of Jallikattu involves literally kicking, chasing, punched, jumped on, deliberately causing them to be disoriented, dragged to the ground, and stabbed, and people even twist and bite their tails to agitate them. In bull races, the animals are often hit with nail-studded sticks and pushed beyond the point of exhaustion. A round ends when one of the bulls either is killed or manages to flee.  As you can see in the attached video and article, such events have led to the death and injuries of spectators due to the intentional frightening of a bull or bulls. Frequently the animals are killed as well as a form of entertainment for humans.  These events are cruel and harmful, not only to the bulls but all those involved.

Our efforts in this petition is to encourage the Indian Government to ban these cruel events like bull races and Jallikattu as forms of entertainment for spectators.  We are asking for better protection of the bulls through the banning of such inhumane practices.  You can help us in our efforts by signing and sharing this petition.

President of India, Pranab Mukherjee – We strongly urge you to protect bulls throughout your country by banning such practices and events like bull races and Jallikattu.  Jallikattu involves literally kicking, chasing, punched, jumped on, deliberately causing them to be disoriented, dragged to the ground, and stabbed, and people even twist and bite their tails to agitate them. In bull races, the animals are often hit with nail-studded sticks and pushed beyond the point of exhaustion. A round ends when one of the bulls either is killed or manages to flee.  These events exhibit harmful, cruel practices for the animals as well as the spectators and all involved in these practices.  Protect the bulls from these inhumane events, including withdrawing the Gazette notification that permits these practices.
