Congress: Stop Cops from Violating Our Privacy with Cellphone Trackers

The Erie County PD admitted to using the Stingray surveillance device secretly - this violates our privacy and we can't let this happen. Full disclosure and new regulations have to be enforced!

I, the undersigned, am respectfully petitioning the Congress to put an end to the illegal surveillance that police departments and law enforcement agencies have been doing on private citizens with the use of technologies and devices like StingRay. StingRay and other such devices are highly invasive and violate our constitutional right to privacy.

StingRay is a cellular tower simulator that collects data from any mobile device within a one-mile radius. As long as your mobile device is on and is within StingRay's range, StingRay can identify your exact location. More than that, StingRay can pinpoint who you are calling or texting and what you are calling or texting. It does not matter whether you are the target of the surveillance or just happen to be in StingRay's range. The use of this device is invasive and the fact that police departments have been secretive in their use of this device is alarming.

Americans have the basic and constitutional right to privacy, and it should not be violated for any cause or intent. Therefore, I am imploring the Congress to put a stop to this illegal surveillance by passing appropriate laws.

The undersigned,
Janice Gomez - Head Educator at Excel Classes - Chicago
