Demand the government creates an Office of Animal Welfare to prevent animal cruelty

Pressure is mounting on the New South Wales (NSW) government in Australia to support the creation of an Office of Animal Welfare.

The call comes after a series of animal cruelty cases were revealed by animal welfare groups and the media.

In January this year, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) raided a farm in northern NSW and found up to 375 dogs living in squalid conditions.

In October last year, another animal rights group discovered puppies on a NSW property sleeping with no bedding in temperatures of one degree Celsius. However, the owner of the puppy farm had already been known to authorities for more than a year.

A vet report used in the RSPCA’s case the previous year documented the condition of a number of animals who had to be put down at the puppy farm. The vet who attended the site reported a "barely conscious" female dog being attacked and dragged around by a pack of dogs.

In December the RSPCA raided the property and prosecuted the breeder, who was charged with three counts of aggravated animal cruelty and four charges of failing to provide veterinary treatment.

Unbelievably, the dog breeder has been allowed to continue running the puppy farm.

An Office of Animal Welfare would help preven tand monitor such animal cruelty cases from occurring again. Please sign and share the petition to demand the government creates an Office of Animal Welfare.
