Dear City Officials and Community Members,
We, the undersigned residents and supporters of San Marcos, are proud to stand behind the San Marcos River Rollers (SMRR), a dedicated women's flat-track roller derby league committed to fostering athleticism, inclusion, and community collaboration. SMRR's efforts not only promote physical activity and empowerment for women from all walks of life but also serve as a valuable recreational and social asset to our city. The league is supported not just by its members but by the broader San Marcos community and surrounding regions across Texas.
Who is SMRR?
The San Marcos River Rollers (SMRR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and women's flat-track roller derby league established in 2017. Our mission is to develop and amplify athleticism, inclusion, and community spirit in San Marcos. Through our league, we empower women, inspire youth and adults, and support outreach initiatives that uplift and unify our city. We also volunteer as stewards of the river, maintain our current practice space at River Ridge Park, and collaborate with other local organizations.
Our Vision for San Marcos:
- Establish two home teams that compete regularly, fostering local pride and camaraderie.
- Develop a travel team to compete regionally, showcasing our city's talent and dedication.
- Promote inclusion for students and long-term residents, including families, to strengthen community bonds.
- Provide competitive roller derby opportunities between San Antonio and Austin, filling a recreational gap.
- Serve as a safe, family-friendly organization, offering alternative entertainment and physical activity options.
- Empower women of all backgrounds to stay active, build confidence, and form meaningful connections.
