Social media colossus Facebook has long empowered white supremacists and far-right extremists around the world and has knowingly profited off the heavy engagement from conspiracy theories, propaganda, and naked hate speech for years.
That remains true during Russia's horrific invasion of Ukraine. Whistleblowers within the company allege that a multitude of pro-Putin individuals and groups under US sanctions are using Facebook to recruit fighters, spread disinformation, and solicit money. "Facebook is knowingly aiding and abetting in the information war that Russia is waging," warned Facebook contractor John Choe in an interview with the Washington Post.

This is only the latest in a long line of geopolitical crimes by Facebook and its parent company, "Meta." From allowing Russian propaganda to run wild during the 2016 American election to even playing a role in multiple ethnic cleansing atrocities around the world, the true damage that this omnipresent social media behemoth has wrought is beyond the scope of comprehension.
Though Meta denies any wrongdoing, we've seen too many times in the past that their words speak louder than their actions. It's time for the public to demand change from Facebook — and if that doesn't work, we'll go right to Congress.
