This Country Still Allows for the Brutal Shark Fin Trade!

Sharks have been finned — that is, brutally killed for their fins — in order to supply gourmet soup for decades in Asia. But now, thanks to unregulated fishing, sharks are hard to find in Asia and the countries that still serve this dish are looking elsewhere. Worldwide, fishermen are killing sharks for their fins and selling them at a profit — except where this practice is banned.

In South America, Peru is one of the last countries that allows shark finning — and through Peru flows the illegal trade that comes from other countries where it is banned, such as Ecuador. Peru is, objectively, one of the last free ports to Asia and is, objectively, condoning the death of thousands of sharks.

Sharks are not the only animals affected: unregulated fishing of sharks kills hundreds of dolphins every year, too. It must stop, NOW!

We ask that Peru ban the trade of shark fins immediately, before another mass extinction occurs. Please sign!
