MARTA is the largest public transit system that does not receive any funds from its state. Because of this, MARTA is woefully underfunded and does not provide the Atlanta metro area with the service it needs. Atlanta's traffic woes will only get worse, and building new roads or widening existing ones is expensive and does little to relieve traffic congestion. It is ridiculous that a great city like Atlanta has an inadequate public transit system. If MARTA received funding from the state, that would allow them to provide more services to people who live and work in Atlanta, as well as to visitors to this great city.
Please pass legislation that will allow MARTA to receive state funds. What benefits Atlanta benefits Georgia, since Atlanta is the state's capital and largest city, as well as a major center for commerce, transportation, education, arts and more.

Atlanta's MARTA transit system is the largest public transit authority that does not receive any funding from its respective state. Mismanagement is not the only reason MARTA is short on money. As a result, MARTA is woefully underfunded and does not provide the great city of Atlanta with the kind of rapid transit service its residents and visitors need. Atlanta's traffic woes are getting worse and worse, and the high price of fuel is forcing many people to cut back on their travel. Please sponsor, pass and sign legislation that will give Georgia state funds to MARTA so the system can not only thrive but also expand and provide Atlanta with the kind of public transit it needs. What benefits Atlanta will benefit the state as a whole, since this city is a major hub for commerce, industry, education, the arts and more.
