With the closing of Shopko, citizens of Alpine and the surrounding towns now only have the option to shop at a Porters Thriftway or a dollar store for groceries.
The residents of this area deserve more than has been provided. The woes of the local shopper have not been heard, and this petition serves as a message.
A Neighborhood Market Wal-Mart grocer is the best solution to these concerns. Providing MINIMAL competition against the majority of local business, a Neighborhood Market would only compete against ONE company AND only as a grocery store. No pharmacy is needed for one to succeed.
Other excellent options include Save-A-Lot, which is a discount grocery chain with over 1,300 locations, and H-E-B, which is already a large name in Texas and is famous for its quality AND its willingness to help its community.
