Tell Texas to Ban Private, For-Profit 'Adventure Parks' that Use Exotic Animals to Entertain People

Animals don't belong in private, for-profit "adventure parks." They are not toys, entertainment, or a means to amass profits. But sadly, people continue to hold exotic animals captive in the U.S. as a way to sell tickets to visitors.

In fact, recently at the Laredo Safari & Adventure Park in Texas, one former employee alleged neglect that led to the death of several animals. This is just more evidence that these types of facilities must be shut down.

The Laredo Safari & Adventure Park is an open-roam park where all sorts of exotic animals (that belong in the wild) are on display for visitors to gawk at. But one woman who worked for the park for approximately a month said the animals there are suffering.

According to a post she wrote on social media, during her month at the park, animals suffered a severe flea infestation. It was so intense, she wrote that fleas even ended up all over her when she went to feed the animals. And, according to her, it apparently led one animal - a monkey called Yaya - to die.

She also claimed that animal enclosures were often dirty, and that sometimes staff fed the giraffes foods that are meant for humans (and bad for animals) - like potato chips. The former employee said that she was aware of six animal deaths, including Yaya the monkey, as well as a capybara, alpaca, baby buffalo, a chicken, and a duck.

Park officials have confirmed that four of the listed animals did, in fact, pass away. However, they insist that this is normal for all parks and zoos. Meanwhile, the USDA had already given the zoo an official warning back in 2024 for violations related to veterinary care practices.

Enough is enough. Animals don't belong in facilities where they're held captive in order to earn money for greedy humans. They are independent living beings who belong in the wild with their families, in their proper ecosystems. They are not items for us to lock up and take pictures of.
