We, the undersigned citizens of Maryland, do hereby petition Governor Martin O'Malley and The Maryland General Assembly, to support House Bill 15 in its current form, with no amendments, and permit licensed physicians to prescribe marijuana, and to ensure a safe and affordable supply of marijuana for medical use.
WHEREAS, Scientific and medical studies by the National Academy of Science have shown marijuana to be a safe and effective medicine for the treatment of glaucoma, epilepsy, muscle spasticity, arthritis, anxiety, depression, the symptoms of withdrawal from alcohol and narcotics, and the nausea, vomiting and appetite loss associated with chemotherapies; and
WHEREAS, Polls conducted in the State of Maryland indicate that at least 72% of Maryland Citizens support medical marijuana when prescribed by a physician (MMP)
WHEREAS, The billions of tax payer dollars spent prosecuting and imprisoning sick people in Maryland and throughout the United States could be better spent on programs emphasizing better education, treatment, rehabilitation; and
WHEREAS, Compassion and common sense demand that we allow Maryland’s ill citizens to use whatever medication is most safe and effective according to their doctors to alleviate their pain and suffering;
WHEREAS, The State of Maryland is not required to enforce federal law, or prosecute people for engaging in activities prohibited by the federal government
WHEREAS, No State has been subjected to a lawsuit from the federal government for enacting medical marijuana legislation
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Governor and General Assembly of the State of Maryland enact House Bill 15 in its current form to permit marijuana to be prescribed by licensed physicians and to ensure a safe and affordable supply of marijuana for medical use.
