Ask S. Africa President to Increase Resources in Protecting Lions

  • van: Sue Lee

Lions throughout South Africa are in continual danger of breeders, traders, canned hunting operators, hunters, cub petting and cuddling facilities.  They are too often captured and live confined lives, away from their natural homes and habitats.  A documentary has been brought to light that talks about the ever-growing issues that king of beasts encounters daily entitled Blood Lions.

You can read more about these concerns at http://www.onegreenplanet.org/animalsandnature/amazing-new-documentary-exposes-the-sordid-world-of-captive-lion-breeding/. Lions are clearly in danger!  As stated in the article, many private South African farms continue to cash in on the commercial exploitation of lions and a variety of other species. There is currently some false conservation efforts and claims being made in an effort to justify these activities.  Such claims are fraudulent, which presents confusion for the legitimate conservation messages and priorities to actually save and protect the lion from illegal and debilitating practices.

For example, these majestic animals are being bred for use in a variety of lucrative revenue streams ranging from the petting and adoption facilities through the “walking with lions” operations once they get older to being traded or slaughtered for the burgeoning lion bone trade. Males on the other hand are often shot in canned or captive hunts.

We need to encourage South African President Zuma to increase his resources for inspection of these operations, ensuring the health and happiness of these animals in their natural habitats!!  You can help us in our efforts by signing and sharing this petition.  The King of Beasts was not meant to live in a confined environment, but rather in their own natural habitat.

President of South Africa - Jacob Zuma – We are urging you to increase your resources when it comes to the inspection of operations involving the beautiful majestic lion; such operations as breeders, traders, canned hunting operators, hunters, cub petting and cuddling.  These animals are not meant to be living in cages and confinement.  King of Beasts belongs in its natural habitat and not in a confined environment.  Take further measures to protect these animals!!
