Tell Providence Police, Black Lives Do Matter

  • van: Lynn Hamilton

A Rhode Island police officer recently received a cup of coffee at Dunkin' Donuts, and the cup was inscribed with the words "Black Lives Matter." The cup refers to a campaign to create awareness of discrimination against Black people.

However, despite the honorable intentions of the movement and Dunkin' Donuts, the police officer had complaints. Now the Providence Police Union says the incident was "unacceptable," and a spokesperson for the union is claiming that the Black Lives Matter movement incites violence against the police.

Nothing could be further from the truth. The movement is espoused by peaceful Black and White people throughout America. All they want is for the American justice system to treat everyone equally. Tell the Providence Police Union to retract and apologize for their misleading characterization of the #BlackLivesMatters movement.

Dear Providence Police Union:

We the undersigned are dismayed to hear that you are protesting the Black Lives Matter movement. The Black Lives Matter movement is widely upheld by peace-loving people all over America who want everyone to be treated equally in the judicial system. They are against police brutality, but most certainly not in favor of violence toward the police. It appears that an officer who is a member of your organization is kicking up a fuss because he was served a mug that promotes the movment at Dunkin' Donuts. Dunkin' Donuts is right to support this movment, and you should, too. Please retract your mischaracterization of the Black Lives Movement, and apologize.
