Protect Death Valley National Park Road from ATV use

Please stand with us.  Say no to the proposed road transfer of 13 miles of Death Valley National Park road from the Inyo National Forest Service to Inyo County, which would open the road to ATV use.  Say no to aggressively expanding ATV routes in the Owens Valley.

Sign this petition and send a voice to the Inyo National Forest Service to protect our wild lands. Deadline for comments is Tuesday Feb 18.

People from all over the world come to this region for exposure to wild nature, the unique spaciousness of these lands and the deep silence that is harder and harder to find at a time of ever increasing urban sprawl.  Those of us who call this valley home rely on more contemplative and lower impact use of these mountains, use that respects and upholds the integrity of the land and its inhabitants.

Sign this petition to ask for a full scale environmental assessment to study the extent of the proposed impact as fully as possible.

Who we are: The School of Lost Borders is based in the Owen's Valley for almost 40 years, offering Vision Fasts and Wilderness Rites of Passage courses and much needed self-reflection time in the wilderness.

We are already feeling the impact of the increased ATV traffic in this area in the last couple of years, with the official designation of the existing routes. Opening DVNP road to ATV traffic use would severely affect the viability of our permitted FS basecamps for several annually conducted immersion programs in the Cowhorn Valley as well as Papoose Flats.

Why we are asking for your support:

We ask for ourselves, for the work that means the world to us and for the many  who's hearts have been cracked open by the beauty of this wild earth.

We ask for the many small businesses that, like us, rely on more contemplative and lower impact use of our mountains.

We ask in support of the indigenous inhabitants who are the original stewards of this valley who call these mountains home and sacred, and for their ancestors.

And we ask on behalf of the non human world and the wild earth herself who deserve our respect and care.

Please sign this petition and share it on your social networks.

Let Inyo National Forest Service know you are opposing the transfer of DVNP road to Inyo County and support a full scale environmental assessment to study the extent of the proposed impact.

Thank you for your support!
