Urge President-Elect Trump to Preserve Passport Reforms for Trans Citizens!

In June of 2010, the State Department rolled out a new policy that allowed for transgender people to receive amended passports that reflect their current gender. This policy replaced the Department’s old policy, which required documentation of gender confirmation surgery.

In addition to it's utility for traveling abroad, for many trans people who elect not to have surgery, the passport is the best (and for many people, the only) way to have an ID that reflects their actual gender. Passports can count as two forms of identification - and in many situations, you can use a passport in place of a birth certificate (which are often very difficult to amend gender on). This has improved the safety and security of trans people at home and abroad.

Join me in urging President-elect Trump to keep this provision in place so that trans people may have a legal resource to assert their identity and remain true to themselves.
