Keep Deasure Matthew as Chief of Schools

It has been made public that Dr. Vargas will be making administrative changes within the Rochester City School District. We are hoping that these changes will not impact Dr. Deasure Matthew and her current role as Chief of Schools. We support Dr. Matthew and her 23 years of experience and dedication to the students of the Rochester City School District.

Here is Dr. Deasure Matthew's bio:

Dr. Matthew began her career in Rochester as a social studies teacher at Frederick Douglass Middle School in 1990 and in 1996 was named RCSD’s Middle School Social Studies Teacher of the Year. In 1998, she began a 13-year role on the leadership team at Wilson Magnet High School. She served as a House Administrator, Program Administrator for the Science & Technology Program, Academy Director, and Coordinator of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. In 2005, she helped facilitate the school’s transition to two campuses and in 2007 was appointed principal of Wilson Foundation Academy.

In 2008, Wilson Foundation was designated a School Under Registration Review (SURR); under Dr. Matthew’s leadership and with the collective efforts of staff and students, it was removed after one year. The school continued to improve as an RCSD Dream School and has been recognized by the New York State Education Department.

She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology and her Master’s degree in Education from the University of Rochester, an advanced degree in School Administration from SUNY Brockport, and her Doctorate in Executive Leadership from St. John Fisher College.
