QExpand Early Release for Nonviolent Federal Offenders
Addressing:
The President of the United States, Members of the U.S. Congress, and the U.S. Department of Justice
Thousands of people in federal prisons are serving long sentences for nonviolent offenses — many for low-level drug crimes — even after proving they’ve changed. They’ve completed rehabilitation programs, maintained good behavior, and shown they’re ready to rebuild their lives, but outdated sentencing laws still keep them behind bars.
It’s time for Congress and the Department of Justice to expand early release opportunities for nonviolent federal offenders who have earned a second chance.
Petition
We, the undersigned, urge lawmakers and the Department of Justice to take immediate action to reform early release policies for nonviolent federal offenders.
Our justice system should reflect fairness, rehabilitation, and redemption — not endless punishment. The First Step Act gave some hope, but too many were left out. Expanding early release opportunities will reduce overcrowding, reunite families, and create safer communities.
We are asking for:
Expanded eligibility for early release for all nonviolent offenders with good conduct and rehabilitation.
Retroactive sentence reductions for those sentenced under outdated or harsh drug laws.
A clear, fair review process for those who have served a significant portion of their sentence.
Improved access to reentry, education, and family reunification programs.
Earned time credits that apply to all nonviolent offenses without unnecessary restrictions.
Justice should recognize change — not just crime. Together, we can help bring fairness and compassion back to the system.
Why This Is Important:
Early release for nonviolent offenders is about restoring balance and humanity in our justice system. It saves taxpayer money, strengthens families, and gives people who have worked to change their lives a real chance at redemption.
No one should be kept in prison when they’ve proven they’re ready to come home. It’s time to make second chances possible for everyone.
