We are a group of homeschoolers with a wide range of ages and abilities learning about our American Government. Our current assignment is to participate in our government in order to create positive change in our world. Our goal is to ban single use bags in our town Plattekill, NY.
We would appreciate it if you would support our effort to affect change in our world in this way. While there are a great number of things that need fixing in our society, this is a bite sized problem that can be tackled here and now. According to the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. goes through 100 billion plastic bags annually, 100 billion!
This is shameful, plastic bags are not biodegradable, clog waterways, kill or harm wildlife and needlessly fill our landfill space. Single use paper bags are also toxic to create, unnecessarily use our natural resources, require huge amounts of fossil fuels for delivery and take up even more landfill space. Our group of kids say: “It will help the world!”
We are hoping to replace single use bags with reusable ones as the Village of New Paltz has done. Over 178 civic entities in the US have done it also. We can too!
Please ban single use bags in the Town of Plattekill, NY. Plastic bags are not biodegradable, clog waterways, kill or harm wildlife and needlessly fill our landfill space. Single use paper bags are also toxic to create, unnecessarily use our natural resources, require huge amounts of fossil fuels for delivery and take up even more landfill space. Our group of kids say: “It will help the world!”
Thank you from our hearts!
