Make Juneteenth a national holiday!

Juneteenth is not currently recognized as a holiday, yet it is an historical date in history for America! On this date, 155 years ago the emancipation of Africans Americans from slavery is celebrated. The significance of June 19, 1865 was the day the last enslaved persons were told that they were free. They had no idea that slavery was actually abolished two years earlier on January 1, 1863! Now in 2020, we're at a pivotal moment in time where there's a worldwide cry for change. The movement for Black Live Matters where people are demanding that Black Americans stop being murdered and brutalized senselessly by police. We must also take a stand on holidays that literally changed the course of our history in the United States. It is important to be remembered and celebrated by all! Let us, Firstline Schools, lead this charge and be an example to others! Make Juneteenth a national holiday!
