Keep Colorado Local - Oppose Walmart's Ballot Measure on Booze

A 2016 ballot measure allowing national big-box chains to sell full-strength alcohol at their stores would devastate Colorado's homegrown distilleries, breweries and other local businesses.

Brandi Pollock of Fisher's Liquor Barn in Grand Junction is just one local Colorado businesswoman who would be hurt by the measure:

My dad opened Fisher's Liquor Barn 35 years ago, on the same property that my grandfather purchased in 1936. I'm proud to own a family business that employs 45 people that are all deeply rooted in our community. And with over 570 Colorado-made products, we are dedicated to supporting all of our local craft beer, wine and spirit partners.

Brandi is just one person in Colorado's liquor store industry, which contributes $1.9 billion to our state's economy. But this ballot measure puts her entire livelihood — and at least 10,000 jobs in Colorado — at risk.

But it's not just locally-owned businesses who would suffer — it's entire economies across the state. Local retailers like Brandi return more than half of their revenue to Colorado's economy. In contrast, a whopping 86 cents of every dollar national big-box stores make will be funneled out of the state to their corporate shareholders.

That's just not right — We should be helping locally-owned, independent Colorado businesses thrive, not passing laws that favor big-box national chains.
