Costco: Get toxic chemicals off your shelves

There are a lot of reasons people are members of Costco. Affordability is at the top of the list, but many also shop at Costco because of their commitment to fair wages and to providing inexpensive organic produce.

But when it comes to toxic chemicals, they're letting their members down. Unlike other big retailers like Walmart, Sam’s Club and Target, Costco has NOT announced a comprehensive policy to restrict harmful chemicals in their products - such as toxic flame retardants that can harm children's health.

We're talking about chemicals like cancer-causing, hormone-disrupting flame retardants, some of which show up in toddlers at five times the rate of their mothers.

In a recent report ranking retailer actions on toxic chemicals called "Who's Minding the Store?," Costco earned an F. Please, sign this petition today and urge Costco to take action to restrict harmful chemicals in the products they sell.

To whom it may concern:

I have come to expect your company to consistently deliver on quality. That’s why I was alarmed to learn that Costco has not announced a policy to ensure that products from its suppliers are free from harmful chemicals and earned an F in the new report "Who's Minding the Store?"

While Costco uses its enormous purchasing power to give members lower prices, your company should also use that power to protect us from toxic chemicals and help make suppliers’ products healthier.

I would like Costco to make a commitment to work with suppliers to eliminate harmful chemicals from your products, starting with toxic flame retardants.

Thank you for your consideration.
