Make Atlanta Smoke-Free

The science is clear: there is no safe level of secondhand smoke exposure. But since smoking is still legal in Atlanta bars and venues, thousands of Atlanta workers and customers are forced to breathe in carcinogens every day. We all deserve the right to breathe smoke-free air, because nobody should have to choose between their health and their job.

Secondhand smoke contains more than 70 cancer-causing chemicals and hundreds of other toxins. Workers who are exposed to secondhand smoke on the job have a 20-30% increased risk of developing lung cancer. Here in Atlanta, service employees, along with musicians and entertainers who work in bars and restaurants, breathe in more secondhand smoke while at work than any other type of employee – and suffer from the same illnesses as smokers. Customers are also at increased risk. This is wrong.

Atlanta workers, customers, and visitors deserve a safer, healthier Atlanta. We all have the right the right to breathe smoke-free air in Midtown, the West End, Buckhead Atlantic Station, downtown, the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, and across Atlanta.
