An instructor at La Paz's School of Military Engineering slaughtered a two-year-old mixed breed dog in front of a class of new cadets and smeared its blood on their faces. The instructor was reportedly suspended for four days as a slap on the wrist for violating a ban on abusing animals in military instruction.
Animal activists claim that other animals have been abused in advanced military classes to desensitize soldiers. This general practice is unacceptable, and the instructor's choice to kill a dog before new students was shockingly cruel, traumatizing and pointless. Soldiers will never encounter something like this on the battlefield. They may see animals and people get abused, wounded and killed, but that is different from watching a trusted authority figure kill an innocent animal in cold blood, and then having to work with that person long-term. This was a sadistic action, abusive toward the dog and all students who witnessed the disgusting act and had blood smeared on them.
This instructor is clearly a cruel and sick person who has no place teaching students. Four weeks suspension is not an appropriate punishment for his actions. Please sign the petition to fire this instructor!
