Save Mid Station and the rest of Whiteface

ORDA wants to rebuild and move the mid-station lodge at Whiteface this summer. While this may not sound like much of an issue, it is a huge issue and needs to be stopped once and for all.

This is a major construction project that will require nearly all of Whiteface's staff to complete. We all know what this leads to. This season when only the bar was rebuilt in the main base lodge, it resulted in all lift and trail maintenance being put on hold. When they went over-budget, the money to finish it came from the snowmaking budget and Whiteface almost had to close in early March but was saved by natural snow. Two trails, Hoyt's and Lookout Below never saw snowmaking as the brush was not cut down, and those trails are favorites among Whiteface skiers. There have been many maintenance problems with the lifts this season because no preventive maintenance was completed. And if that's not enough, for the entire first half of the season, they were way short on lift operators because everyone was working on the lodge, and there were busy weekends when lifts didn't run causing absurd lines, sometimes over 30 minutes at the gondola.

We can't afford to go through this fiasco again. Mid Station is perfectly functional as it is, and the deck is very much loved by locals. It does not need to be rebuilt or moved, and even if it did, there are many more important things that need to be done at Whiteface, such as snowmaking upgrades.
