For three-and-a-half years now, America has been bogged down in a war in the sands of Iraq that is compromising our national security, and winning us enemies when we need allies in the war against terror.
Since 9/11, 9,000 members of our California guard have been deployed overseas, mostly to Iraq. The California National Guard has fallen 20 percent below its authorized strength, as fewer members re-enlist and fewer Californians
sign up.
It is long past time to bring our troops home.
Send a message to President Bush TODAY and urge him to take California's National Guard troops out of Iraq. Ask him to stand behind our troops and bring them home to fulfill their true mandate -- protecting families in California.
Since 9/11, 9,000 members of the California National Guard -- California's crucial defense against domestic disorder and natural disaster -- have been deployed overseas for extended and repeated tours of duty.
These tours of duty exact a terrible toll on California's resources, seriously degrading the Guard's ability to meet security needs at home.
I urge you to return California's National Guard units to California so that they can fulfill their intended purpose -- protecting our homeland, not implementing foreign policy.
Sincerely,
