As your constituent, I urge you to work with your fellow members to put a cap on out-of-pocket prescription costs in the Medicare Part D program. Every day, low-income seniors across the country are making difficult choices to make ends meet. In some cases, seniors are splitting their pills in half in order to put food on the table.
The lack of a cap on out-of-pocket prescriptions drugs is absolutely devasting for chronically ill, low-income patients who have multiple diseases or conditions and need several prescriptions to simply maintain their current health. Capping out-of-pocket costs in Medicare Part D CHANGES that. It's a solution that protects our nation's seniors.
As it stands, seniors who need specialty drugs could pay as much as $2,600-$16,500 for their prescriptions per MONTH. As a concerned constituent, I'm asking you to do something about this. Recent polling data even suggests that 76 percent of voters support legislation that would cap or limit out-of-pocket prescription costs for seniors.
It's clear that this is an issue that affects EVERYONE, not just seniors. This kitchen table issue can not be neglected any longer.
I urge you to pass legislation capping out-of-pocket prescription costs in Medicare Part D. Lives are at stake here.
