Now that the Supreme Court has upheld the Affordable Care Act, I urge you to oppose any effort to block or overturn it so my family has access to fair and decent health coverage. I also ask that you make sure insurance companies follow through on rules to spend less on overhead and more on medical care, so I get more value for my health-care dollar.
Health insurance companies already are starting to return $1.1 billion in refunds to Americans for spending too much on their overhead, CEO salaries and excessive profits, and not enough on our actual medical care.
This Medical Loss Ratio provision under the ACA is starting to bring down skyrocketing insurance costs. It encourages insurers to work smarter and more efficiently, and it means money back in my pocket when they don't.
Overturning or undermining the ACA would put these refunds at risk. The vast majority of Americans want these and other consumer protections, and I expect you to support and implement them so we are no longer at the mercy of the giant health insurance companies.
