Save Bluefin Tuna!

You never thought you would see the day when tuna would be in danger of extinction. But that day has come. The population of Pacific bluefin tuna is down by over 96 percent. Overfishing is the clear culprit here as tuna have adapted to a number of environmental changes. Greenpeace has asked the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission to take immediate action to curb overfishing and save the bluefin as well as bigeye tuna which is also in decline.

Please join with me in telling the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission to 1. Bring fisheries limits into harmony with best available science on sustainability 2. Increase sanctions against illegal fishing 3. Review available fishing technology and make recommendations on sustainable fishing methods.

To the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission:

We the undersigned are shocked to learn that the Pacific bluefin tuna population has declined so severely. The culprit is clearly overfishing. Fish stocks need to be responsibly managed, not allowed to plummet to 4.3 percent of their original numbers. There is no reason in this world to allow tuna to go extinct. Where sustainable fishing practices have been put into place, the industry thrives, and stocks don't suddenly disappear overnight. Please bring fisheries limits into harmony with best available science on sustainability, increase sanctions against illegal fishing, and review available fishing technology and make recommendations on sustainable fishing methods.
