Support the DIAPER ACT (H.R.3134)

Did you know that diapers are required to attend free and subsidized childcare programs? It can cost $100/month to diaper a baby, and without an adequate supply children cannot attend childcare, and as a consequence, working mothers do not have the freedom to go to work. Babies left in dirty diapers face greater health risks, including conditions like severe diaper rash, staph, and urinary tract infections.

Today is the day to make a difference with children and mothers who cannot access childcare and employment opportunities due to lack of diapers.

The legislation will amend the Child Care and Development Block Grant Act of 1990, and will help to relieve some of the stress on families facing hardship in this economy by allowing diapers to be provided as a direct service, instead of as an administrative cost. The bill seeks only a definitional change that allows Child Care Development Funds to be used for diapers to improve child care quality and access. There is no increase in appropriation required with this legislation.

As a result of this legislation passing, eligible child care centers will have the flexibility to provide diapers to children in need, who would otherwise go without this basic need.

Tell Members of Congress and POTUS that you support the Diaper Investment and Aid to Promote Economic Recovery ("DIAPER") Act (H.R. 3134), sponsored by Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT). Ask your U.S. Representative and Senators to co-sponsor the bill.
Millions of American families are struggling in this tough economy. I support the DIAPER ACT (H.R.3134), and I am asking that you co-sponsor this important piece of legislation.
