Help Haiti Rebuild

Haiti was still recovering from the devastating 2010 earthquake when Hurricane Matthew hit in October. More than 1,000 people died and more than 1 million lost their homes and livelihoods. Haitians have worked hard to rebuild their country after the earthquake, but the devastation from the hurricane – irrigation canals ruined, livestock swept away, and homes reduced to rubble – has set them back.

Several months on, news cameras may be gone, but the real work continues. We need to help Haiti rebuild smarter, not just with food and clothing donations immediately after the disaster, but long term by helping Haitians earn money while cleaning up their communities, building industries that will endure and preparing for the next disaster. Much of this work is already underway: thanks to smart community investments after the earthquake, not a single life was lost in towns like Dame-Marie, even though it was in Matthew's direct path.

But the scale of the task at hand means that Haiti will need the world to help. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is on the ground helping Haitians help themselves and rebuild sustainably. We need to show Haitians we haven't forgotten them and won't let them languish. Add your name to send a message of hope to the people of Haiti and show your support for efforts to rebuild the country to withstand anything the future has in store.
