Pledge to end the stigma surrounding kids' mental health issues

Mental health issues can be difficult to talk about and easy to diminish with the words we use.

Suicide and mental illness are growing problems for young people — that's why we should all vow to use language that fosters conversation, not stigma.

Will you do your part to end the stigma around mental health issues? Sign now and pledge to:

  • See people first and their disorder second. Instead of using phrases like "She's a depressed person" say "She's a person with depression."
  • Avoid casual phrases that stigmatize mental health issues. Stop using words like crazy, nuts, psycho, or schizo, which are hurtful to those who are suffering.
  • Allow everyone to talk about their thoughts and feelings. Give your loved ones a chance to be open and vulnerable and you'll demonstrate that sharing is safe and healthy.

Though the number of young people in the U.S. suffering with mental health issues is growing, only half of them will get the treatment they need. Nationwide Children's Hospital is stepping up to meet the need by building America's largest behavioral and mental health facility dedicated to helping kids lead healthier lives.

But we need your help to bring these conversations into the national spotlight and bring comfort and support to those who are suffering.

Pledge to do your part to end the stigma around mental health issues and use language that fosters conversation, not shame.
