Partisanship and polarization are making it impossible for all Americans to have their voices heard. Congress is the most dysfunctional in history, average Americans are turning out in droves, and the situation is only getting worse.
That’s why U.S. Congressman John Delaney introduced H.R. 2655, the Open Our Democracy Act, which would enact open, nonpartisan elections for all House and Senate races, prevent partisan gerrymandering by requiring the creating of independent redistricting commissions in every state, and treat election day as a federal holiday, providing millions of workers the freedom and flexibility to get to the poles and cast their vote.
The Open Our Democracy Act will:
- Give freedom to all voters to participate in the primary process.
- End the backward practice of letting politicians choose their voters.
- Increase voter participation by treating Election Day as a federal holiday.
- Return power to the voters instead of special interests.
Support the Open Our Democracy Act and give power back to the voters. Elections should belong to people, not the parties!
