Thank your lawmaker for supporting wildlife crossings and public safety!

Each year, collisions with animals on Colorado roads result in injuries, fatalities, property damage, and drained bank accounts. Wildlife-vehicle collisions cost the state about $313 million annually, with the average cost of hitting a deer exceeding $17,000.

During this past legislative session, four Colorado lawmakers worked to advance H.B. 25-1303, Funding for Motor Vehicle Collision Prevention. This bill would have funded critical infrastructure projects, such as wildlife crossings—overpasses and underpasses designed to allow animals to safely cross highways—and projects to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety. Although it didn't pass this year, Pew and local partners are continuing to advocate for projects that keep Colorado's drivers and wildlife safe.

As we prepare for the next legislative session, please take action today by thanking your state lawmaker for championing wildlife crossings and public safety!

As your constituent, I want to thank you for your efforts to advance H.B. 25-1303, Funding for Motor Vehicle Collision Prevention, this past legislative session. Your work in drafting and advocating for this fiscally responsible legislation, which would protect our safety and that of wildlife, means so much to my neighbors and me.

I hope your colleagues will see that a small investment now will have big returns by saving lives and conserving the wildlife that makes Colorado such a wonderful place to live and visit. Although we were unsuccessful this year, I urge you to continue prioritizing commonsense solutions to this public safety and conservation issue next session.

Thank you for working to secure continuous funding for wildlife crossings, and I look forward to your further efforts to address our state's high rate of vehicle collisions to make Colorado's roads safer for drivers, wildlife, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Sincerely,
[your name]
