Tell Australia to Stop the Cruel Mistreatment of Sheep!

Hundreds of thousands of sheep are transported to the Middle East each year to be slaughtered during the Festival of Sacrifice.

During transport, they are bound and shoved into tight quarters that allow for very little movement. These sheep are horribly mistreated despite Muslim rules requiring that the sacrificial animal be treated with great care and gratitude.

Australia is promoting this inhumane treatment of animals by exporting their sheep to the Middle East knowing full well the mistreatment they will suffer.

The Australian government stopped the export of live sheep to Egypt in 2008 for similar circumstances. It should do so again, except with a broader mandate this time.

Urge Joseph Ludwig, the Australian Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, to stop the export of live animals to the Middle East and help stop the cruel mistreatment of Australian sheep.
Dear Joseph Ludwig,

Hundreds of thousands of sheep are transported to the Middle East each year to be slaughtered during the Festival of Sacrifice. Australia knows the mistreatment that these animals suffer in transit, and yet still allows exports of the sheep to the Middle East.

In 2008, the Australian government stopped the export of live sheep to Egypt because of the mistreatment the sheep received in transit and upon arrival. It should do so again, with a broader mandate. In the interest of animal welfare, Australia should not send its animals to other countries where they are treated in a way that would be illegal in Australia.

I am writing to urge you to stop the export of live sheep to the Middle East and help stop the cruel mistreatment of Australian sheep.
