Washington state has become a refuge for abortion seekers from Idaho and dozens of other states that have banned abortion. For Idahoans, getting abortion care may mean traveling hundreds of miles. Abortion clinics in Eastern Washington have seen an exponential increase in demand from those needing abortion care. Clinics in Western Washington are seeing the increase in patients from the South and Midwest. We need to show our support for clinics and patients by increasing abortion access ASAP.

"We'll be seeing an increase of 385 percent, which is a lot of people. [Then], imagine that being increased significantly," said Dr. Anuj Khattar. Cedar River Clinics, where Dr. Khattar works, is one of only four full-service abortion clinics in rural Eastern Washington.

The Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade showed us that our rights are not guaranteed, no matter what state we're in. Washington state is a refuge for compassionate abortion care, but we all need to work together to make sure that we can maintain that for generations to come.
