Don't Let Pregnant Women Get Pushed Out of Jobs

Every day, pregnant women are put on unpaid leave or fired when they request reasonable accommodations from their employers. These accommodations don't create undue hardships--often, they simply include providing seats for employees who spend long periods standing or allowing more frequent restroom breaks.

Yet, only seven states currently have laws requiring private employers to provide any accommodations to pregnant women. Without these protections, pregnant women often face a choice between working under unhealthy conditions and not working at all.

It's time to enact federal legislation that prevents employers from firing pregnant women for requesting reasonable accommodations. Act now to call on the U.S. Congress to pass laws that mirror those in states where pregnant women are able to maintain jobs.
We the undersigned call on you to enact federal legislation that prevents private employers from firing pregnant women for requesting reasonable accommodations.
