An acquaintance of mine called the health care debate generational and structural, and so it is. I had no idea until today that health care insureres are exempt from Federal antitrust laws. Insureres are free to operate within any state without competition from outside that state. Of course, their subsidiaries can operate in other states, also free from nationwide competition.

http://www.medpagetoday.com/PublicHealthPolicy/Washington-Watch/16352The time has come to end this nonsense before it bankrupts every working person in the country. Conservatives don't want a government-backed health-care system, but the truth is that's exactly what we have. Let the market prevail, and if things don't get better then we'll know we need a federal program.
Until then, let's stop protectin the fat-cats who long ago stopped protecting us.
