Help Stop Atmospheric Air Pollution in Zaporozhye

It is not easy to accept that having no war, living in peace, people from Zaporozhye, Ukraine, breath in every day the content of one of the chemical bombs which are usually used during wars. In Zaporozhye there are 10 industrial factories which pollute the air that 776 918 citizens breath.

According to the "Sanitary rules of the atmospheric air protection in the cities" the quality of the atmospheric air (in 2010) has got the following evaluation:
- the level of pollution : inappropriate
- the risk level : moderately dangerous

In 2008 the quantity of harmful emissions into the atmospheric air made up 331,8 thousands of tones. Every day the air of Zaporozhye gets more than 150 chemical substances; most of them refer to the 1st or 2nd danger class (manganese dioxide, benzopyrene, lead and chrome compounds, etc.). The intense pollution with the dust, phenol and hydrogen sulfide (up to 50-60%), nitric oxide (up to 40 %), fluorine and chlorine - is the background of this ecological problem.

In Zaporozhian region 4 thousands of people die annually of oncological diseases, and 6 thousands find the malignant tumor in their bodies. In 2010 we have more than 40 thousands of people who suffer from cancer; from January to May 2010 we have lost 1841 citizens.

Our children have a very difficult life because it is very rare now that a mother gives a birth to a healthy child. All their lives parents spend buying medicaments and trying to cure their kids from bronchial asthma, allergy, cancer, etc. The number of couples who are not able to have babies grows.

In our city it's difficult to find good and truly caring ecological organizations which could prevent our people from dying. We are defenceless. Please, help us.
