Tell the US Navy To Stop Using Dolphins For Harm

For decades, the US Navy has trained dolphins for a variety of military purposes, including mine detection and as "guards" to deter human swimmers. Now, apparently, they might be used around Iran.

Aside from the cruelty of confining dolphins and subjecting them to such an unnatural lifestyle, and the allegations of brutality in the training regimes, it is also dangerous. Physical mine detection is not something that humans do, for a reason. Some of the dolphins may get blown up and any dolphins in the area become an immediate target for the Iranian military.

Dolphins are not soldiers or weapons and should never be used for military purposes. Tell the US Navy to spend money on robots, not cruelty to intelligent, sensitive marine mammals.
We the undersigned ask that the US Navy stop using dolphins. Even if the animals are not deliberately hurt during their training or the exercises, the confinement, training and unnatural lifestyle causes unnecessary suffering.

Intelligent marine mammals should not be used for military purposes. Their effectiveness is debateable and the inevitable cruelty cannot be justified. We request that the Navy end its marine mammal program now. The resources required could be far better used in developing advanced technology, not exploiting cetaceans.
