Don't Pass Missouri Bill Limiting the Types of Food that Food Stamp Recipients Can Purchase!

According to several sources, including the Kansas City Star, Missouri legislators are passing punitive rules that prohibit citizens who receive cash assistance from the state from going to see a movie or swim in a local pool among other activities. But the demeaning actions against low-income people haven't stopped there. The latest round of insults come from Missouri Rep. Rick Brattin, (R).Brattin has introduced House Bill 813 that dictates the type of food, food stamp recipients can eat!

If passed, the Bill would not allow food stamp recipients to purchase cookies, cakes, soft drinks, seafood or steaks. This is bad enough on its own, but the wording of the Bill is so vague that even a can of tuna is off limits! Tuna is nutritious and inexpensive but according to Rep. Brattin it's a no-no.! Amazingly, the Bill will generously allow Twinkies!

This insufferable Bill will affect more than 900,000 Missouri citizens. Please tell Congress to Vote a resounding NO! to Bill Number 813!

Attn: U.S. House of Representatives

We (the undersigned) are appalled at the proposed House Bill 813 sponsored by Missouri Rep. Rick Brattin. Not only is the concept insulting and degrading to citizens, it's wording is not clear and concise. For example, this Bill would allow Twinkies and Ice Cream but not a can of Tuna!

Why must the constant attempts to blame the poor people of this nation for its budget problems result in every type of humiliation imaginable? This must stop.

Please do not pass House Bill 813!

Sincerely,
