UK, Don't Abandon the Disabled!

Karen Sherlock was diabetic. Her symptoms included chronic kidney failure, partial blindness, a heart condition, and unpredictable bouts of severe vomiting. But the UK Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) told her to get back to work.

Karen, like many other disabled people, was deemed ineligible for any kind of Employment and Support Allowance. She recently died of heart failure, scared and abandoned by the government that should have cared for her.

Now, the DWP is trying to further cut funding for disabled people. It is completely unreasonable for the DWP to expect those with severe, debilitating long-term health issues, including cancer, to work. Tell the DWP to fulfill its commission and provide for the disabled!

We the undersigned are outraged by the treatment Karen Sherlock and other disabled United Kingdom citizens have received. It's shocking that you could so cavalierly deny any kind of allowance to somebody whose health problems were so severe and debilitating. Sherlock was totally unable to work and should have received a benefit. Please review the application procedure for the Employment and Support Allowance which is needlessly convoluted and difficult. And quit denying benefits to the severely disabled!
