Iceland is violating the International Whaling Commission's -IWC moratorium on commercial whaling, as well as the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species -CITES. Iceland killed 273 endangered fin whales in the last two years, well above what scientists believe is a sustainable number for the fin whale population.
Under US domestic law, there is a provision known as the Pelly Amendment that allows for a series of actions against a government that undermines the effectiveness of an international conservation agreement.
We ask that you take those series of actions and protect the whales that have been put at risk by Iceland's defiance of international agreements.
